Where do lessons take place in Byron Bay?
In-person coaching runs in Byron Bay and nearby towns across the Northern Rivers — including Mullumbimby, Bangalow, Lennox Head and Ballina. Online lessons over Zoom are available Australia-wide.
Do I need any experience to start?
None at all. Tomás coaches complete beginners who have never played a full game, as well as rated club players. Every lesson is pitched to your level.
What age can kids start learning chess?
Most children are ready from around age five. Junior lessons are playful and patient, using puzzles and games to build focus and confidence.
How much do chess lessons cost?
Private and junior coaching are $60 for a 60-minute session. Small-group sessions start at $40 per person for two players and drop to $30 per person for three or more. Get in touch for packages and school rates.
Can we do lessons online?
Yes. Online coaching over Zoom works well for all levels — you share a board, Tomás annotates in real time, and you get the game analysis afterwards.
Do you coach groups, schools or clubs?
Absolutely. Group sessions suit friends, families, schools and community clubs across the Northern Rivers. Reach out with your group size and we’ll tailor a plan.
