Tomás is an Argentine chess player who has been competing and coaching for over a decade. He moved to Byron Bay and now teaches players of every level — from first-move beginners to rated competitors — with the patient, ideas-first style Argentine chess is known for.

Where do lessons take place in Byron Bay?
In-person coaching runs in Byron Bay and nearby towns across the Northern Rivers — including Mullumbimby, Bangalow, Lennox Head and Ballina. Online lessons over Zoom are available Australia-wide.
Do I need any experience to start?
None at all. Tomás coaches complete beginners who have never played a full game, as well as rated club players. Every lesson is pitched to your level.
What age can kids start learning chess?
Most children are ready from around age five. Junior lessons are playful and patient, using puzzles and games to build focus and confidence.
How much do chess lessons cost?
Private and junior coaching are $60 for a 60-minute session. Small-group sessions start at $40 per person for two players and drop to $30 per person for three or more. Get in touch for packages and school rates.
